Atalanta B.C Player Profile

Thought I would start a new segment on here showcasing some of the Atalanta players. I will start with Italy hopeful Luca Cigarini.

Luca Cigarini (born 20 June 1986 in Montecchio Emilia) is a playmaker who likes to orchestrate the play from just in front of the defence. Technically assured, he is comfortable with both feet and possesses a lethal shot from distance. His style of play is often compared to that of Andrea Pirlo. He plays midfielder for Atalanta in Serie A and Italian U-21s. He is one of the youngest notable youth product in current Parma squad, alongside Daniele Dessena and Daniele Paponi.

On September 7, 2007, Cigarini scored his first ever goal (which was also the winning goal) with the Italy U-21 squad in a 2-1 victory over the Faroe Islands in a UEFA U-21 Qualifying match. He was also part of Pierluigi Casiraghi’s Olympic team which won the 2008 Toulon Tournament.

  I have the highest of hopes for this player. Montolivo is usually touted as the next Pirlo, but in reality Cigarini is pound for pound the Italian that plays his role most similarly to Pirlo. How has he been doing so far with Atalanta?

  From what I have seen he has been decent. Hasn’t really gotten a chance to truly prove himself but he has plenty of games ahead of him. I think he started against Catania and did well….

  Yeah he would look pretty in pink but for now he is with La Dea . Football Manager (in all of its addictive glory) had him valued at 24 million in four years from now. In my epic Palermo save I have Dessena and I tried reuniting them with Reginaldo but it wouldn’t work. Either way both Dessena and Cigarini are the future in the Azzurri midfield.
